Nitview® is an internationally patented medical device that incorporates an ultraviolet light (400-405 nm, light range naturally visible to the human eye) and detachable comb with micro-channelled teeth for the effective removal of both lice and nits.

The lice, their eggs and nits (empty shell cases) glow under the UV light making them very easy to find amongst the hairs and then remove with the comb.

This light is absorbed by chitin* in lice and nits, which emit fluorescence during exposure, thus facilitating the visual location of the insects for their effective removal.

*Chitin, a fibrous substance consisting of polysaccharides, which is a major constituent in the exoskeleton of arthropods and the cell walls of fungi.

Combing is still considered "best practice" for the removal of both lice and nits and is the only method to ensure total eradication.

Nitview® is an internationally patented medical device that incorporates an ultravilolet light (400-405 nm) and detachable comb with micro-channelled teeth for the effective removal of both lice and nits.

The lice, their eggs and nits (empty egg cases) glow under the UV light making them very easy to find amongst the hairs and then remove with the comb.

UV light is absorbed by chitin, a major constituent of the 'shell' of lice and nits. Chitin emits fluorescence during exposure to UV which makes the insects glow.

The comb section can be easily removed to enable the UV light to confirm that all lice and eggs have been removed and help to avoid recurrence of the infestation. The light can also be used to check clothing, towels, bed linen etc.

Nitview® Ledcomb

The technology behind Nitview

Chitin is a long-chain polymer of a N-acetylglucosamine, a derivative of glucose, and is found in many places throughout the natural world. It is a characteristic component of the cell walls of fungi, the exoskeletons of arthropods such as crustaceans (e.g., crabs, lobsters and shrimps) and insects, the radulae of molluscs, and the beaks and internal shells of cephalopods, including head lice, their eggs and nits (empty egg cases).

The structure of chitin is comparable to the polysaccharide cellulose, forming crystalline nanofibrils.

UV light is absorbed by chitin, a major constituent of the 'shell' of lice and nits. Chitin emits fluorescence during exposure to UV which makes the insects glow.

The emission spectrum of an absorption of 400-405 nm is near green (yellow-green), defined as fluorescence but this emission can go from the green to orange (near red in some cases). Factors affecting the emission spectrum from head lice can be the environment, gas concentration or even the food intake of the parasites as lice turn darker after they have ingested a lot of blood.

Product Instructions

NITVIEW®Ledcomb operates with 3 x 1.5 V AAA batteries. Batteries not included.

How to use NITVIEW® Ledcomb

NITVIEW®Ledcomb can be used on previously washed and untangled, dry or slightly damp hair. It is recommended for use preferably in low light conditions.

1. Insert 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries into the battery compartment (See instructions in the section on “Removing and changing the batteries”)

2. Hold the NITVIEW®Ledcomb by the handle, press the central button and the ultraleds torch will start to emit light.

3. Place the head of the NITVIEW®Ledcomb by its teeth at an angle of no more than 90o and begin to inspect the hair from root to ends, running the teeth through each strand to be examined.

4. Remove extracted lice and nits from the comb using a damp paper cloth or wipe.

5. Repeat the operation strand by strand until the whole head has been inspected and cleaned.

6. After each use, carefully extract and clean the comb using soap and water, especially if to be used on different people. Do not boil. Do not place in a dishwasher, or use corrosive products for its cleaning.

Recommendations:

- Repeat the operation for several days in a row to ensure complete removal, as the life cycle of the louse (hatching of nits into nymphs and subsequent growth into adult lice) is approximately 7-10 days.

- Remove the comb and use the torch to inspect areas that could be infested, Eg: beds, sofas, cushions etc.

Storage and conservation of the product:

- Store the device in a clean, dry and cool place.

- Protect the device against humidity. If liquid enters the device, remove the batteries immediately and stop using it.

- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

- Switch off the device when not in use.

- Remove the batteries if the device is not to be used for an extended period.

Detaching the comb (it is advisable to detach with the teeth facing down):

1. Check that Nitview® is switched off.

2. Press the sides of the detachable head with one hand while firmly holding the handle in the other hand.

3. Pull and twist gently on the detachable head.

Removing and changing the batteries (Check that Nitview® is switched off):

1. Press the battery lid as shown in the diagram (within instructions included) and pull to open the compartment.

2. Remove the inner slide tray

3. Place the batteries on the slide tray as shown in the diagram (within instructions included).
